We are a community of developers and aspiring developers
These are some of the commitments we make to ourselves and others in the community.
Zero tolerance for harassment
This policy is a work in progress and open to feedback. We are looking for community engagement in helping improve these processes.
We have a zero tolerance towards harassment or exploitation of our community members. The following outlines the process for reporting an incident of harassment or exploitation that has occurred to you. Please know that this formalised process is just one part of a commitment to the safety of this community, if you believe there are other activities we should also be undertaking please be in contact with this feedback.
In brief our zero tolerance to harassment policy is:
A complaint is raised via the complaint form.
The reported member is made aware of the complaint, directed to IGEA’s resources on harassment and what may constitute as harassment, and provided an opportunity to enter an appeal.
If the member has been identified as someone making others feel unsafe or unwelcome in the community, and depending on the wishes of the person launching the report, the reported member may be removed from the community Discord pending an appeal. If no appeal is launched the reported person will remain barred from participating in the community Discord.
If an appeal is launched, additional information may be collected, and this information may be provided to a third party for investigation. Note: If there is reason to suspect a crime has been committed this third party may be the police.
Please note that the IGEA’s list of what can constitute as harassment is not-all-inclusive, and gameswithwings take seriously any conduct that has members feeling unsafe or unable to contribute whether that conduct falls under this particular definition of ‘harassment’ or not.
The process can be terminated at any point upon request by the person who launched the report.
Our intention has been to create a process that places minimum burden on victims of harassment, treats information confidentially and allows the person launching the complaint to remain in control of the proceedings (and in particular be the one to decide on police or third party involvement if appropriate).
Harassment or conduct complaint form
The complaint form can be found here.
Our approach has been to create a brief questionnaire that attempts to capture a minimum of information required.
Nature of the incident from available options or other. IE physical, verbal. This information is provided to the reported member.
The frequency of the incident/s from the available options or other. IE once, persistent, ongoing. This information is provided to the reported member.
Do you feel unable to participate in the community because of this person and their actions? Yes / No
In your words, what action would you like to see taken? Free written response.
Can you please share your name. You determine if this is provided to the reported member.
Do you consent with your name being shared with the reported member?
Can you please share your email address or other contact information.
Can you please provide a date, location or description of an occurrence of this harassment. This information is provided to the reported member.
Our intention with this survey is to put as little burden on those reporting incidents of harassment as possible, while capturing adequate identifiable information about the incident. Although the IGEA guidelines are written to address employee / employer relationships, we have endeavoured to match best practices.
No judgement is made on information provided though the complain form. This information is used to present the reported member with enough detail that they are able to recall or understand the conduct they are being accused of. If you have suggestions on improving these processes please reach out privately or let us know in the discord-requests-and-suggestions channel.
Who is handling these complaints and who sees the information you enter into the complaint form?
Right now Dean Longmore (or @dll in the Discord community) has sole access to these reports. In future our intention is to develop a small group of trusted, caring and empathetic members who are responsible for complaints and help maintain the health and safety of our community.
